Soap bars curing on wooden racks in the Indriya atelier

The house

Indriya

Indriya is the Sanskrit word for the faculties of sense — sight, sound, smell, taste, touch. We make soap for all five, beginning with one bar: Douce.

The house sits between the plains of Punjab and the hills of Himachal. We cold-process in small kettles, cure for four weeks, and wrap by hand in unbleached paper. There is no palm oil, no synthetic colour, and no fragrance that does not belong to a plant.

Douce — French for soft — is the signature. Orange blossom, warm milk, shea. From it come Nuit and Soleil, the evening and morning twins. Sparsha and Gandha take their names from touch and scent.
